Local business Peak ARE has been appointed as the preferred contractor by retail property group McConaghy Properties to deliver mechanical and electrical contracting services for the $34 million development of its flagship Townsville shopping centre, Castletown.

Employing over 50 staff, Peak ARE is a local family-owned and operated business that specialises in full turnkey commercial and industrial air-conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical solutions.

Work on the redevelopment of Castletown has started, with the project anticipated to create up to 160 jobs during construction and up to 100 new jobs within the centre once the upgrade is complete.

Peak ARE Director Brad Swaffer said it was terrific to see the commitment shown by McConaghy Properties’ to engage local businesses on the $34 million project.

“The Peak ARE team is excited to be working on this project that will provide more choice for Townsville shoppers by delivering a more modern facility with easier access and an expanded parking offering for its patrons.”

Michael Bolin from McConaghy Projects said it was pleasing to be able to appoint a local business for the mechanical and electrical engineering requirements for the Castletown redevelopment.

The redevelopment of Castletown will see the arrival of a Coles supermarket, new specialty retailers, a new entry statement and improved facilities.

About 20 Peak ARE staff will be deployed between now and December on the Castletown redevelopment project. Construction is expected to be completed by Christmas 2021.
