Leading North Queensland business Peak Air Conditioning Refrigeration and Electrical (Peak ARE) sponsorship recipients, Blackheath & Thornburgh College in Charters Towers are vying for the Independent Secondary Rugby League Confraternity Shield in Brisbane this coming weekend.

The competition, which will see Rugby League teams from schools across the state, is an exciting opportunity for the school and would not be possible without help from local businesses.

Peak ARE is a proud local business with a strong ethos of giving back to the community’s which support them. Electrical Department Manager, Allan Petersen, who was instrumental in the partnership, is elated to see these young regional athletes be given the chance to prove themselves against larger metropolitan schools.

“We’re thrilled that we can do our bit to make sure that kids from rural and regional communities are able to be given a shot against schools from Brisbane, SEQ and larger regional hubs who have made a name for themselves within high school rugby league.” Mr Petersen commented.

“Peak ARE is committed to supporting our community through sponsorships like this one. These are the moments for some students which make their school experience and give them something to strive for. To be able to play a part in that is tremendous.”

Head of Secondary School at the Blackheath & Thornburgh College, Adam Bowden, is grateful to Peak ARE for their generous support and is excited for the College and Charters Towers to be able to be represented on a state level.

“Although we’ve been a pillar in the competition’s history, it’s still means a lot when local businesses, like Peak ARE, see the value in our boys and help them be able to compete.” Mr Bowden said.

“Hopefully, this year is the first of a great tradition of our partnership with Peak ARE.”

The Independent Secondary Rugby League Confraternity Shield is being hosted by Iona College in Brisbane’s north from the 27th of June to the 2nd of July and will see nearly 50 Independent Secondary College’s come together to compete for the Shield.
