DEFENCE CONTRACT A BIG WIN FOR LOCAL BUSINESS

Media Release

Leading Townsville-based mechanical and electrical services contractor Peak ARE is supporting Lendlease in delivering new facilities and infrastructure as part of the LAND 4502 Project at RAAF Base Townsville.

PEAK ARE Director Brad Swaffer said the works will support three additional Chinook Helicopters (CH-47F) which will form part of the 5th Aviation Regiment.

“We’re incredibly humbled to be the chosen contractor by Lendlease to deliver electrical services associated with this important project which includes two CH-47F Aircraft Shelters, a logistics facility and the additional works that are attached to those pieces of infrastructure,” Mr Swaffer said.

“Peak ARE has had six fulltime tradesmen, along with two apprentices, on site throughout the duration of our eight-month contract. It is testament to Lendlease and the Department of Defence that they have chosen local contractors to deliver this work, ensuring flow on economic benefits of the project stay in the local North Queensland community.

“We’re proud of our defence-ready capabilities and have been working with the Department of Defence for over a decade. This current contract, once finalised, will provide new fit-for-purpose facilities that will enhance operational capability and support functional requirements of the unit’s existing facilities which is a wonderful legacy to be a part of.”

Peak ARE designed, supplied and installed dehumidification systems, chiller and chilled water systems and mechanical ventilation systems in the CH-47F Aircraft Shelters to ensure the aircraft is housed in best performance, climate-controlled conditions.

“The entire team at Peak ARE is thrilled to be working on such a unique project that will stop corrosion of these important helicopters and enhance their longevity for years to come,” Mr Swaffer said.

“The additional infrastructure also means there is now space for new personnel and logistical support elements which will further improve RAAF Base Townsville. To be a part of that is truly something special.”

The Department of Defence estimates the project will cost around $49.9 million (excluding GST).
